Living our Faith

There are so many needs in our world. How can our efforts make a difference?  Here at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, we may be few in numbers, but we help in so many big ways.

Parish Organizations

CHRISTIAN MOTHERS – The Confraternity of Christian Mothers  is a women’s group dedicated to the Sorrowful Virgin, that nurtures and fosters the values that spring from Catholic social teaching.   Through service and activities, these values are brought to life by dedicated women of all ages.  Although called the Christian Mothers, any Catholic woman, single or married, may belong.  They meet monthly, except for the summer months, on the 4th Thursday of the month. For more information, contact Anita Poetain at 412-751-5182 or email at  [email protected].

SETON MEN’S GROUP – Our men’s group is dedicated to the support of the parish and the involvement of the men of parish. They have three goals: socialization, spiritual growth, and the support of the parish family. They meet on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month at 8:00 am in the Church.  Contact person is Scott Benedict at 412-754-1849.

PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL – The Parish Finance Council is an advisory body comprised of parishioners with business, finance, building and other backgrounds. The group assists the pastor and the parish business manager in the administration of finances, maintenance and capital improvements in order to carry out the mission of the parish.  The Finance Council meets quarterly on Saturday mornings.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL – The Parish Pastoral Council offers advice and consultation to the pastor as he directs the spiritual and temporal life of the parish. The council persons are selected from the general parish community.  The Parish Council meets several times a year.

Inter-Parish Organizations

KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS – Saint Jude Council # 9019 – is an interparochial, fraternal Catholic men’s organization of nearly ninety men working to help the local parishes, the Diocese and the Church at large through its many projects.

The KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS is an international Catholic Mens’ Fraternal Organization that does outstanding work in the areas of charitable outreach of service and of financial support.  Locally the Saint Jude Council meets monthly on the campus of Saint Agnes Parish.  If already a Knight, then get involved.  If interested, please contact Father Mike at [email protected], or the Grand Knight, Mr. Albert Borgony, at [email protected].

THE EMERALD CLUB – is an organization composed of members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and Saint Agnes Parishes who are fifty years of age or older that seeks to provide spiritual guidance, social activities and information pertinent to senior citizens.  All members enjoy the closeness of parish family and their lives are better because of it.  They meet at Saint Agnes Parish. For contact info, call Saint Agnes.

THE SAINT VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY – locally is dedicated to providing spiritual and material aid to the needy through their works with the FOOD BANK (which is serviced through our facilities and Mack Hall monthly and assisted by our contributions), HOLIDAY BASKETS (as a parish we provide additional dinner totes at Christmas … with gift cards with each tote and at Easter, we give a larger gift card rather than the tote), the GIVING TREE (which we share in during Advent), and special collections.  Call for info on helping, or if in need of assistance.  See below for further info on the parish LUNCH BAG MINISTRY and the DINNER TOTE MINISTRY.

Parish Service Ministry Opportunities

OPERATION LUNCHBAG – Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church is host to the Food bank, which is held here once a month in Mack Hall.  There are approximately 125 (as of October 2014) children whose families receive assistance through this outreach program.  This number is up from 75 in 2013. Under the direction of Barb Jackson, our parish puts together a ‘lunch bag’ for these children which consists of healthy snacks/drinks.  This is a year-round project.  Donations are asked for packaged items (sorry, no home-made or non-wrapped items can be accepted).  Please remember these children on your next shopping trip.    Contact the Parish Office if you have any questions.

CARING FRIENDS FUNERAL LUNCHEON COMMITTEE – The funeral luncheon committee assists the grieving family with the arrangements for a luncheon in Mack Hall after the Funeral Mass.  They set tables, make coffee/tea, serve food, and clean up after the family has left.  To check the availability of the hall, please contact the Parish office at 724-864-6364.  If the hall is available, Ginger Flynn 724-864-1365 or Mary Jane Henry 412-751-6283 and their committees will be able to make all the arrangements.  If you are able to help serve on the committee, contact Ginger or Mary Jane.

HOLIDAY DINNER TOTE BAGS – To assist families in need during the Christmas holidays, our parish families put together a ‘dinner tote bag’ which is distributed to the Food bank recipients.  This dinner tote bag is filled with all the fixins for a holiday meal with nonperishable items such as potatoes, gravy, stuffing, canned vegetables, fruit or applesauce, dessert items, cookies, coffee, tea, etc.  Our Charity Fund supplements the tote bag with a gift card to a local grocery store.   For the Easter Holiday, our Charity Fund purchases a gift card in place of the dinner tote for each family.  Due to the Lenten Fish Fry, our hall has limited storage space.
